MMFX Exhibition opens at IMA (USA)

Following its participation as invited team in last year's Material Manufacturing Effects / MMFX Symposium in Indianapolis (USA), ReD's work is now featured in the MMFX Exhibition, at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Here is a short description by curators Keving Kingler and Branko Kolarevic:

The Indianapolis Museum of Art is presently hosting Manufacturing Material Effects:
Rethinking Design and Making in Architecture, an exhibition that features work from
leading thinkers, designers and manufacturers from around the world who
participated in the 2007 symposium at IMA organized by Kevin R. Klinger and
Branko Kolarevic. The exhibition display was designed, digitally fabricated, and
assembled by a team of graduate and undergraduate architecture students at Ball
State University working with key regional industry partners. Through this
immersive learning experience, a hallmark of Ball State University, students were
transformed by engaging a real world collaborative exchange. Students developed
the display system entirely using digital media and translated files electronically to
drive the production of each specific material. A digital exchange of information
between manufacturers and students was central to the success of the project.
The exhibition is sponsored by the Institute for Digital Fabrication (IDF) with the
Center for Media Design, the College of Architecture and Planning at Ball State
University, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, as well as regional industry partners.
Multiple manufacturers have donated materials, facilities, and production time for
the exhibition. These businesses include Indiana limestone, Indiana hardwood
veneer, metals, and plastics specialists.
The exhibition will be on view through June 8, 2008. A formal closing event has
been scheduled for May 30, at 6pm at the IMA. Formal remarks by Ball State
University President, Jo Ann Gora and Indianapolis Museum of Art Director and CEO,
Maxwell Anderson will begin at 6:30.

ReD will lecture at ESAD next Nov. 26 (Portugal)

ReD will give a lecture at the Escola Superior de Artes e Design (ESAD) in Matosinhos, Porto, on the 26th of November, at 18h. This presentation is part of the opening cerimony of the OutrosMercadus 2006 Award dedicated to Ephemeral Architecture projects. In its first edition, ReD

won the 1st prize with the M-City project, installed in the Kunsthaus Graz (Austria). Photos of this project will be featured in the exhibition at ESAD, from 26/11 to 21/12.

ReD @ "Jornadas da Inovação" in Lisbon (Portugal)

Invited by the Portuguese Innovation Agency (ADI), ReD participated in the "3th Jornadas da Inovação" at the International Lisbon Fair (FIL) in Lisbon.

Featured in the section dedicated to the new portuguese technology-based companies, ReD presented a series of images illustrating the diversity of the works and services developed by the office in the last 3 years. Using individual light-tables, ReD also presented 4 physical objects produced by CAD/CAM technologies: a rapid-prototyping model of the XURRET System, a 1:1 scale sample of the MORSlide plywood panels, a wooden model of the Skyshelf and an acryclic laser-cut prototype of the FlyingCarpet.

The reaction of the visitors was extremely positive. By seeing the pictures and experiencing the physical objects, visitors could realize the design and material potential raised by the use of new digital technologies in architecture.

Through this exhibition ReD had the opportunity to establish a wide-range of personal and business contacts towards the development of future projects and collaborations.

Visit ReD at the "3 Jornadas de Inovação" in Lisbon (Portugal)

ReD @ PortugalNow Exhibition (USA)

Invited by Carla Leitao (professor at Cornell University and co-founder of AUm Studio), ReD participated in the Portugal Now: Country Positions in Architecture and Urbanism Exhibition in New York. According to the organization, "this event is the third in a series of conferences and exhibitions organized by the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning at Cornell University. The series explores some of the most intriguing currents in contemporary architecture, landscape architecture, art, and urbanism in different parts of the globe. Portugal Now will examine examples of emerging contemporary Portuguese architectural practices and how they contend with global political, economic, and social realities."

EXBHITION: ReD @ Pavillon de l'Arsenal in Paris (France)

ReD's project M-Ciy is part of a large itinerant exhibition named 'Scenographies d'Architectes'. The show has been created by the Pavillon de l'Arsenal, and will be displayed in Paris from July 6th to October 20th, 2006. ReD's M-City is included in the group of 115 projects that represent the best scenographic projects done by architects in the past decade. The exhibition has been curated by Christine Desmoulins and designed by Dominique Perrault.

EXHIBITION: ReD Invited for the Pavillon de l'Arsenal (France)

ReD is invited to exhibit the M-City project at Pavillon de L'Arsenal in Paris, as part of a large itinerant architectural exhibition on "Architectures Scenographies", which will show the major exhibition designs of the past decade. The exhibition will be curated by Christine Desmoulins and designed by Dominique Perrault.

EXHIBITION: End Session of Seminar @ ESAP (Portugal)

The ESAP hostes a public presentation of the final works produced during the Seminar in Digital Architecture, and an exhibition of the drawings, animations and physical models produced during this initiative.

RESEARCH: JPS @ Spot on Schools, Beyond Media (Italy)

A full-scale prototype of a system of building blocks in cork, produced by JPS in his PhD research, is shown at the Spot on Schools Exhibition in Florence, with the support of IST, FCT and AMORIM.

EXHIBITION: ReD @ Beyond Media Festival, Florence (Italy)

ReD is featured in The Strorytellers exhibition at the Beyond Media Festival in Florence. The show reunites the work of 30 Architecture Offices from around the world and is curated by Marco Brizzi and Paula Giaconina.

EXHIBITION: ULTERIOR MOTIFS Exhibition @ LA (USA)

The work produced by Woodbury students during the summer workshop conducted by MMA at IaaC, is exhiited in Woodbury University's Hollywood Gallery.

EXHIBITION: ReD invited for the Beyond Media Festival (Italy)

The studio has been invited to be part of 'The Storytellers' show, which will present the work of 30 selected international architecture offices. The festival will be held Dec 1-11 in Florence (Italy).

PROJECT: M-City Opening + Catalog Launching (Austria)

M-City exhibition is now open in Graz, and is a major event in the city's programme of Steirischer Herbs Festival 2005. The show, designed by ReD, will last to January 8, 2006. ReD's work is featured in the exhibition catalog.

LECTURE: MORSlide @ Fabrication Conference (Canada)

ReD participates and exhibits the MORSlide Project at the AIA/ACADIA Fabrication Conference, held in Toronto and Cambridge, Canada. The work is published in the Conference Proceedings.
