ReD's R&D proposal winner at DISONANCIAS

ReD's application to develop a 8-month R&D collaboration with the Basque company IMAR was selected in the DISONANCIAS international Call for Artists.
DISONANCIAS is a platform that liaises and promotes relationships between artists and companies, research centres or public organisations in order to foster innovation in all its aspects and transmit to society the importance of developing creative environments. This year DISONANCIAS international Call for Artists presented 9 basque companies to host creative collaborations with artists. In this context, ReD decided to enter this competition to propose a collaboration with IMAR, a basque company dedicated to applications for perforated sheet metal and expanded metal, which has develop important works for famous architects like Herzog&Meuron. After a selection process that involved an interview with the DISONANCIAS's jury and IMAR's representative, ReD's R&D proposal was selected, and should start in November.

ReD wins Competition "Arquitectar o Ambiente"

ReD, Research + Design, the studio founded by IAAC's faculty members Marta Malé-Alemany and José Pedro Sousa, won the architecural competition "Arquitectar o Ambiente", promoted by the Portuguese company Labicer, with the support of the Portuguese Architects Association. The competition challenged participants to design a temporary installation for the Departures Terminal of the Lisbon Airport, showing innovative applications of Labicer's recycable material 'Vitrakem'. ReD submitted 2 projects, which were both awarded in the competition: "Flying Carpet", an installation that explored Vitrakem as a structural and cladding material, got a Special Honorable Mention, while "Sample Box", an installation that exposed the different colors of the Vitrakem Catalogue, was awarded the 1st prize. The winning entry will now go into fabrication, in order to be installed at the Lisbon Airport in January.
